Craft storage is easy when you begin as the number of component parts is usually small and manageable. As your interest grows and you develop your chosen craft keeping keeping tools, materials and consumables such as glue and paint can get out of hand if you don’t have a good storage system in place.
A portable storage cart with wheels is a great way of managing all your inventory and avoid a heap of mess on the worktop. This solution is relatively cheap and will save you from the frustration of looking for that missing pair of scissors or that craft knife.
Here are 5 mobile storage carts with a high (4star+) Amazon customer rating that would do the job:
The ten colored storage drawers slide into the chrome steel frame, mounted on lockable casters with an internal dimension of 13.5″ x 9.5″ x 2.6″.
With color coded drawers its easy to locate different craft tools and materials making storage and retrieval easy.
The unit comes as self assembly pack with tools included and does not appear to be rocket science to put it together.
The unit gives a maximum loading of just under 50lbs with 3.3lbs per drawer (16.5lbs for the top drawer) which is a significant amount of storage.
Yes the individual drawers aren’t that large but with careful arrangement of contents they can hold all your craft kit and supplies in one place.

This cart has eight standard drawer and four larger drawers at the bottom which gives more versatility to store small and larger craft items.
The moulded plastic drawers are semi opaque which allows visual sight of the contents. This can either be a positive (immediate eye contact with the item you are looking for) or negative (adds to the visual room clutter) depending on which way you look at it.
The unit has overall dimensions of 15.25 x 25.25 x 31.75 inches (weight 16.5 pounds) and has a decent sized top that you can either utilise as additional worktop or storage space.
The cart is also self assembly and fairly easy to put together (tools supplied) and in addition to the instructions that come with the unit there is a useful video available online to help you construct the unit.
This is a great storage cart with good visibility of the contents and some variation in drawer space with a reasonably sized worktop. It appears well constructed and ticks the box for arts and crafts storage.

This storage unit is a bit different to the rest in this review as it comes assembled which could be a massive plus if like me you hate self assembly!
The other plus is the organiser feature at the top which enables you to keep all those items that you use day to day whiteout having to open a drawer.
This is a small neat cart with two sets of different size draws allowing for small and larger items. The drawers are 12.8 x 9.8 x 2.9 inches (small) and 12.8 x 9.8 x 6.8 inches (large). The unit weighs in at 6.5 lbs due to its moulded plastic construction, which is considerably lighter than the chrome frame models.
One common negative listed in the customer reviews is that the drawers are fitted with limit stops and they do not fully pull out of the unit. This depends on your own personal taste and if this doesn’t particularly bother you and you are looking for a small compact and versatile cart this may well be for you.

Two of the five mobile plastic storage containers with drawers stand out. The highest rated is the Iris 4 drawer cart which for a smaller inventory of craft tools and materials is the obvious choice especially as you not have to self assemble the cart! If you need a bit more space with a larger work surface area the Honey Can Do 12 craft storage cart would be our choice.
